Our New Library Room Faux Wood Beams

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been making small changes around our home, focusing on what we’ve been calling the Library Room. After living with open exposed ceilings for a few years, we have decide to add some more character to our rooms by finally finishing off the ceilings. Ceiling can be so much more than a flat white space, adding tongue and groove shiplap, faux exposed floor joists, or in this case faux barn beam, are a great way to really bring the space together.

This room is a very complicated. It is essentially a very wide hallway that separates our kitchen and our front living room. The room has been an office, dining room, library room, and currently, it’s empty. If you’d like to read more about the room you can click this link here [HERE]. I have noticed with each season around the farm, I have new wants and wishes for this little transitioning space. With the built-in shelving wrapping around this room, this room still is open to so many possibilities… but what I love about this challenging space is how much I love it, even empty.

For us, the decision to add beams was simple, it added some color and break up to the very white room. I love having beams in many of our rooms from our kitchen to our back living room, they add so much texture and depth for the eye to move up to.

We chose to use faux wood beams made of polyurethane. The brand of beams is Fypon, but we went through West Michigan Lumbar. The makeup of these beams are a foam polyurethane, making them extremely lightweight. To install them, a 2×4 attached to the floor joist above, these beams are essentially a hollow, “U” shape, the beams are fit around and attached to the 2×4.

Have you ever experimented with faux wood in your own home? I would love to know your thoughts on Facebook or Instagram. Thanks for stopping by the blog today and every day!

xx Liz Marie
