Simple Solutions
One of the key steps in making accurate cuts is remembering the measurement once you get to the saw to make the cut. Rather than carrying around a notepad, try this: Peel off the stick-on decal from the side of the tape measure, then clean off any sticky adhesive with solvent or Goo-Gone. Next, roughen up the surface by scrubbing it with 120-grit sandpaper; that’ll give the pencil something to bite into. Now you’ve got a convenient place to write down the dimensions, and easily read them once you get to the saw. And after making the cut, you can easily erase the measurement, and you’re ready for the next measurement.
