It’s time to go through the reveal of our library cabinets! We added doors onto the shelves in our library, added an additional section onto the built-ins, and then re-painted it all. We really wanted our library to function more as storage and less as a display. I love the change in our library and it honestly makes the space feel so much cleaner. We are so excited to be partnering with Benjamin Moore to paint this space! Let’s get into the process of painting the library cabinets.
Before of Space
Here is a before shot of our library built-in shelves, for a long time we had these styled as open concept shelving. Don’t get me wrong I loved the open built-in shelves but after adding the apothecary cabinet to our front living room, it felt like I had too many open shelves to style and decorate. Instead, I wanted to have the storage space of all of the cabinets without worrying about it being well-styled behind the doors! We also added another section to the built-in so we could hide our TV in the cabinets.
Color Selection Process
I honestly wasn’t sure what color I wanted to go with for the shelves. My thoughts were torn between trying something bold or going with something I knew I would love. So I used the free Benjamin Moore Color Portfolio app that allows you to use your device to instantly “try on” Benjamin Moore colors in your space using augmented reality. Simply tap the screen to see colors on any area in your space. Browse all of Benjamin Moore’s 3,500+ colors using the Virtual Fan Deck.
Through the app, I was able to test out a bunch of different colors and narrow them down to a few to try in the space. I’m a firm believer that you should always test paint colors in your home before making a final decision. The natural and artificial lighting of your home can really change the color hue so this is the best way to see how the color will look in your space! In Progress Painting
We let the sample colors dry overnight and looked at them in all different lighting situations in our home. To test which color we liked best we looked at how the color looks in the morning, middle of the day, night time, and with artificial light. Ultimately, Jose & I both agreed that we liked Chantilly Lace 2121-70 Premium Eggshell Interior Paint by Benjamin Moore the best. It is one of my favorite white paint colors and didn’t pull green like so many other paint colors do in the library. The room naturally has green lighting to it, so that’s always something we have to consider when selecting paint for this space.

Final Reveal
I absolutely love the way the library cabinet shelves turned out! Adding the doors to the shelves and refreshing the paint has brought such a clean and simple feel to the library. As we started the new year this was the perfect transition for this room. It has worked so well for this space & I love the way the whole room is coming together!
