Library Built-Ins Paint Color Reveal

I’m so excited to be writing this post! A while back I had this idea to paint our built-ins in our library. My reason? I really wanted to give the library built-ins more of an authentic furniture piece vibe. Like it was an antique library shelf that was built into our home. Since our walls are white along with the library shelves they didn’t stand out. Since we are turning this room from a dining room into a library, it seemed like the perfect time to make my dreams come true with painting these babies! So, let’s get into he color…

That’s right! We chose a color other than white or a version of white. & I’m thrilled with how it’s coming out! We started with the uppers of the built-ins by cleaning and sanding them. We chose to use Farrow & Ball cabinet paint because it was rated the highest for cabinet paint. Also, because we are not going into any stores right now so this is the only way we can get paint is to order. I’ve always wanted to try there paint so now was a good time! I ordered it online & decided to test it out for you guys to let you know if it’s really worth it. So far, we are in love! The bad news? I only ordered one can & these built-ins will require two so I’m going to have to wait for the other can to come in to finish this.

The painting plan:

We plan to paint the built-ins from the very top trim that touches the ceiling all the way down to the trim on the floor. The ladder, laundry door, & trim inside the door cove will also be painted the blue gray color as well. As far as the hardware, we don’t have an entire plan yet, but I will be replacing the hardware on the cabinet doors and the laundry room door. I’ll keep you posted on the progress!

The color:

Wow! I had such a hard time deciding on the perfect color for these built-ins, but as I was scouring Farrow & Ball’s website I was really enamored with blue/green/gray combinations. I wanted something a little darker with a historic value to it & I went between a few of the colors, but ultimately decided on blue gray. It honestly reads very green in our home [& in the photos online] but that’s why I also fell in love. It is a color that changes & can be perceived very different at different times of the day.

So, there we have it. The start of our painted built-ins in the library. They are far from done, but I’m so excited to have started & to be sharing with you guys! So much progress in this room. We will do more painting tonight & I will share the progress on my socials for sure. I hope you guys are as excited about this project as I am & I’m really thankful that you stopped by the blog today to check it out! Be sure to follow me over on Instagram & Facebook to keep up! xx
