Ceiling medallions are great for camouflaging drywall flaws around a light fixture. Learn how you can install one yourself.
Materials Needed
- Ceiling Medallion
- Construction Adhesive
- Painter’s Tape
- Caulk
1. Remove the Light Fixture
Make sure the power is turned off at the circuit panel and remove the light fixture. If you’re uncomfortable working with electricity, hire an electrician to do this.
2. Proper Placement
Apply construction adhesive to the medallion’s underside, and align the hole at the center with the electrical box in the ceiling.
3. Re-Wire the Light Fixture
Use painter’s tape to hold the medallion on the ceiling while you re-wire the light fixture.
4. Tighten the Bolts
Once that’s done, the canopy of the fixture will hold the medallion tight to the ceiling, so you can remove the painter’s tape and tighten the mounting bolts.
5. Caulk and Seal
To finish it off, apply a thin bead of caulk around the medallion where it joins the ceiling.
Now, you have an attractive ceiling addition that adds character to your house, while hiding the imperfections!
