How to Clean Indoor Surfaces to Prevent Coronavirus

Cleaning and disinfecting nonporous surfaces are two ways to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Coronavirus primarily spreads from person to person. However, it may survive on nonporous surfaces for days, according to health experts. That’s why proper home maintenance can reduce its viability.

About Coronavirus

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus — or SARS-COV-2 — causes COVID-19, which the World Health Organization named a pandemic. And the virus mostly spreads from coughing and sneezing when near others.

Washing your hands, and not touching your eyes, nose or mouth is crucial to prevent catching the viral disease. Cleaning your home can help, too, but not just any household cleaning product will do.

Wet & Forget Indoor Mold+Mildew Disinfectant Cleaner is among the few cleaning products rated for fighting COVID-19.

“Wet & Forget Indoor Mold+Mildew Disinfectant Cleaner kills similar viruses and therefore can be used against COVID-19,” the product’s manufacturer said. It’s most effective when people follow “the directions for use against Norwalk virus on hard, non-porous surfaces.”

Customers have flooded Wet and Forget with questions about using the product in relation to the novel coronavirus. So far, no one has contracted novel coronavirus from an infected surface, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. After all, the disease can last for days on tables, desks, doorknobs, handles, faucets, sinks and light switches, according to the CDC.

People daily encounter such ‘high-touch’ surfaces, which increases their risk of contracting the viral disease. But cleaning and disinfecting these surfaces helps prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Health experts don’t just recommend any cleaning product for fighting emerging enveloped viral pathogens, such as novel coronavirus. The American Chemistry Council’s Center for Biocide Chemistries has compiled a list of products, which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, approved for fighting COVID-19.

Wet and Forget Indoor Mold + Mildew Disinfectant Cleaner is one of the listed products. It cleans, disinfects and kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses on hard, nonporous surfaces.

And, when used according to its product label, it can effectively fight viruses similar to COVID-19.
