Holiday Baking Traditions

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? I’ve loved watching Copey learn more about Christmas this year & can’t wait to see his joy on Christmas day. While Christmas may feel different to us this year, I’ve realized that Copey only knows what we teach and show him. We can still make this year just as special for him & create memories as a family! If you’ve been feeling the same way I hope this reminds you to take some time to do something special as a family. For us we decided to do some holiday baking, Copey loves cookies!

There is something so special about baking with your family during the holiday season, whether you are making cookies or another favorite holiday treat! While Copey might not be able to help out a bunch yet, he loves eating cookies so I would definitely say this was fun for the whole family. I would love to bake something with him every year & be able to see his growth and what he is interested in each year! We decided to make some classic shortbread cookies & they turned out so delicious. I personally prefer my cookies without icing, so that’s the route we took here. You can find the shortbread recipe we used here!

We got all of our baking essentials from Walmart! I love that you can get any bakeware items you might need & the ingredients for your recipe all at once at Walmart. My favorite find is these rolling pins with the holiday designs on them, as you roll out your dough it imprints the design. We rolled the holiday designs into our dough and then cut them out with the cookie cutters, it was such a fun & different way to make your cookies. I linked some essential baking items from Walmart below including the rolling pins, cookie cutters, and tea towels we used, you can find all of that and more at Walmart here!

2020 has taught us many things & this year has made me realize that our family being together creating memories is the biggest priority. I can’t wait for the day that Cope can join us in making cookies, for now, he’ll just get to enjoy eating the cookies! I know this year looks so different for everyone, I hope you can find a way to make special memories with those you love most. Whether you are baking cookies, cooking dinner, or making another yummy dessert as a family … the memories made in the kitchen are ones we will cherish for years to come. It’s not too late to do something special with your family & spend this time with those we love. Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
