Find Inspiration from Simple Seasonal Staples

A strong seasonal staple can instantly transform a look from a cozy winter nook, airy spring seating area, a summery golden hour reading corner, and even a welcoming fall entryway. My mission each and everyday for our blog is to inspire design, inspire happiness, and inspire cozy. I have said it over and over, for many years now, but cozy to me is, my five senses being a piece at once and I try to share with you how to create your own cozy spaces with different elements of design to hit all your five senses. There are countless ways to do this, and for those that don’t eat, sleep, breath design it can be stressful to look at your home as seasons change. For those that do love all things home decor and design like me, getting in ruts in something we all deal with, finding others and Mother Nature, to gain inspiration from, is remarkably uplifting when feeling defeated with new looks.

I love working in layers and levels over time. It is not uncommon for me to start (and sometimes stay with) a simple seasonal element, leave it for a few days, and build on it over a time. Sometimes the simplicity of that seasonal staple nails it right on the head, and its the perfect look for how I am feeling at that moment, in that season.

This space is located under our staircase, at our front door. The bench automatically is welcoming to guests, suggesting they take a seat, and take off their shoes. This space also speaks to us, that live here. It captures the perfect flares of golden hour, to kick back in a nook, read a book. We recently moved our vintage cabinet out of here, and brought the bench back in just for those moments. When the Michigan winter weather approaches, I like to focus on adding various seating areas in our home to help us better storm the cooler months. I encourage a few extra spaces get created in areas of your home. This allows for you and your family to not get stuck in routines, find different places in your home to enjoy and appreciate. Without that movement and discovery in your home, the house can quickly start to close in on you.

To capture the season, we start brining in the heavier throws in fall. Think texture, think wool. This is really the anchor the space, add maybe a few extra pillows, especially the oversized ones. If you visit often you know that I enjoy white and neutrals on the walls and furniture, to really take a step back to let the seasonal decor shine, and here is a perfect example. The pop from the pumpkin centers this entire space. I look at this space and I can smell a sultry candle, and feel a cracked window with a crisp-crisp breeze. This is how we tackle design with our senses.

It doesn’t have to always be a ton of store bought fall decor, it doesn’t always have to be a ton of fall items, & it certainly doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to be a pretty fall display. It can be one pumpkin you found at the grocery store & that’s it. I hope that among all of the looks I share that you feel inspired to create a look that fits your current schedule, budget, & season of life that you are in. You got this friend!!

If you get in a design rut, or fall uninspired… take the simplest step and see where it lands you. You might find that your space only needed a single item, or that item is your muse. This little nook only really needs a little orange pumpkin to tie this cozy corner together, and we couldn’t be happier (ask Cope). We had the pillows, we had the poof, and the throw… Without the pumpkin it could be a good start to a winter look, but the pumpkin stops you right in your little fall tracks.

If you have been watching our stories on Instagram you know that I am feeling all the inspirational mindset feels right now. The year was a tough one, and I think we all can find a happy, peaceful place in our own cozy spaces. Don’t wait or hold yourself back, continue to create, continue to treat yourself, and continue to seek your own cozy, even when the world isn’t the coziest. I hope this inspired you and I truly-truly am thankful for your visits to the blog each and every day! Thank you!
