Sometimes we often forget to include the kitchen into our seasonal and holiday looks. The kitchen is one of my favorite areas to decorate in the house, because it is a space that we spend a large portion of our time in. We find ourselves, relaxing, cooking, eating, and even working from time to time. Our kitchen is truly the heart of our home. I am the first to say that there are more ways to decorate in your kitchen than simply on the island, counters, and dinning table. I love accenting the kitchen windows above our sink with some seasonal decor. Here is how we got this Cozy Christmas Kitchen Window to look so cute and seasonal!
I’ll share the rest of our Christmas kitchen later, but today let’s just focus on that little window of ours. To get this look here is a little rundown of what we did: First we do a base layer with this antique Fort Emory sign. We purchased this sign from one of the lovely antique vendors at my store, The Found Cottage. We center the sign and raised it up off the top of the trim by a few inches.
Next, I placed three 3M Command wire toggle hooks, one on each side and one in the middle. The next layer to accent the window is the fresh cedar garland, hooked onto the 3M Command hooks. We had to cut this garland to length, so we staunch up one side with the desired fall, and dropped it across the top of the window, down to the other side, and cut the garland with sheers at approximately the same length as the other side.
The last layer was another strand of the real dried orange garland. To make this garland, we sliced the oranges in 1/8th inch to 1/4 inch thick, and dried them in the oven at 250 for about 40 to 60 minutes. We strung them together using twine, and mimicked the same motion and drape of the fresh cedar garland layer.
