Bedroom Refresh Part 1: New Paint

Our bedroom refresh is here!! If you follow me over on Instagram I’ve been taking you guys along on this refresh, but now I am so excited to share on the blog. We painted the floors, ceiling, and walls of our bedroom & I am loving the entire refresh! I always say if you want to transform a space buy a can of paint. It is one of the most affordable ways to change up a room and it is crazy how a coat of paint can bring a whole new feel to the space.

Wall Paint

The walls are painted with Behr Scuff Defense Paint. This is actually a new type of paint they are offering and I was really excited to try this out. We are constantly rearranging our bedroom and it is so great to know that this paint fights against scuffing! The color is Sherwin Williams Extra White (SW7006).

Ceiling Paint

To paint our ceiling we used Behr Premium Interior Ceiling Flat Paint. No added colors just right out of the can. I cannot even begin to tell you guys how big of a difference this made, our old ceilings were dingy and dirty but now they look bright and fresh! If you frequent the blog you know how much we love refreshing our spaces, trying new paints on the walls, but I can literally count on one hand how many times I have painted our ceilings throughout the year. It is one of the surfaces that you just look past… Since it is so fresh, I want reiterate that

Floor Paint

The floors are painted with Behr Porch and Floor Paint. The Color is also Sherwin Williams Extra White (SW7006). We are quickly becoming semi-pro’s at painted floors. We haven’t discovered any new and improved tips and tricks to the process. We emphasize really cleaning the space. The hardest part about painting the floor is that everything falls on to it. I would recommend wearing hats during the sealing and painting process to try to mitigate any hair from falling, as that is usually the biggest culprit in unwanted things on the floor.

Floor Sealer

To seal our floors I used Water-Based Polyurethane from Home Depot. When I sealed our floors downstairs I used a matte sealer but for the upstairs I’ve decided to use gloss. I did two coats of the sealer on the floor, for the first coat I used a floor roller and for the second I used a normal paint roller. Personally I liked using a normal roller with a floor sealer better, I found it was easier and it is cheaper! To seal the floors I pour the sealer onto the floor and then use the roller to spread it around. This probably isn’t the technical way to do it, but it works for us!

Tip: Get a water based sealer! If you are doing lighter colored floors, like we have, you will want to select a water based sealer. Water based sealers may change the color of your paint slightly but they will not turn it yellow, however, oil based sealers can turn your floors yellow.

I hope this helps those of you that have considered painting your floors. We still standby it was the best decision we have every made. We love how cost effective it is, how easy it is to repair or change, and how each room can take on different looks over the years without a massive flooring change. Refreshing a space can have massive impacts on your mental comfort as well. It is crazy how powerful and positive a change in paint can make a space, while also changing the way you feel. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today and every other day. It means the world to us!
