We still have a few weeks left in August, but there is something that makes me inspired to start my fall decor and fall planning when kids start going back to school. Even though Cope isn’t school age, that event and seeing the school busses pass our house puts me in the fall mood! I know we start a little early here on White Cottage Farm, but that is so we can inspire you early for your fall decor before you start. Today’s fall mantel look is brought to you by back to school and fall leaves…
For this look our mantel isn’t even attached to the wall, you read that right… this room is torn up, but I really wanted to create something pretty even though this room is so far from done. So don’t mind the undone bead board & the trunk that is holding up the mantel, just enjoy the pretty fall inspiration!
For the mantel I wanted to utilize the thick top mantel piece and load it with leaves. These garlands and leaves are all from our shop, The Found Cottage. I used these large vases from Arhaus [HERE] on either end of the mantel filled with yellow leaves from our shop. I used about three garlands layered on the mantel to get that super full look, but you can get away with a single garland that runs the length of your mantel. In the center of the mantel I decided to use an antique chalkboard with nothing on it. I could have done more, but I didn’t want to be the drawing on the chalkboard to be the main focus so I left it blank. I added in a few of those rusty pumpkins from our shop as well to add some more texture, break up all of the color, & add another layer of fall vibes. The inspiration for this mantel are those antique autumnal colored books from my friends at Old Cottonwood. They are seriously what inspired this whole traditional fall color pallet in this look. I also loved using these books to show that you do not need to use literal fall decor in your fall looks. Find everyday items that give the vibe or fit your color pallet to create your look. From baskets to books to paper to jars & more.. think of seasonal color pallets & use more everyday items instead of season specific items to create a cozy look.
