Mosquito control should be a priority for every homeowner. Contrary to popular belief, making your home mosquito-free is a very achievable task as there are many ways you can do it. Most of these don’t require experience or any specific equipment at all – just your consistency.

Here’s how you can avoid mosquitoes from lurking in your home:

Garlic

Your kitchen cupboard will never be complete without garlic. This is a spice that is used in almost all dishes prepared at home. But, are you aware that you can always use garlic to get rid of mosquitoes?

To use garlic to drive away mosquitoes, crush a few cloves and boil them in water. Allow it to cool after a few minutes, then, pour everything in a spray bottle and use it around dark and moist areas of your home, such as your garage and room. You’ll be surprised how this solution can instantly kill mosquitoes.

Camphor

Camphor is a natural ingredient often used in lotions, creams, and ointments. Camphor is extracted from camphor trees and can be purchased in oil and chalk forms.

When getting rid of mosquitoes using this ingredient, buy its chalk form, and place it in enclosed areas. Leave the area for about 30 minutes and be prepared to sweep off dead mosquitoes on the ground. This works because camphor has a naturally strong odor that can kill and shoo away mosquitoes.

Coffee Grounds

Preventing mosquitoes from infesting your home will not only require you to kill the adults — you also have to make sure that their eggs do not survive in your home. You’ll see yourself going through circles if you’ll only kill adult mosquitoes and not their eggs.

Fortunately, coffee grounds can help. If you suspect that mosquitoes have laid their eggs in stagnant waters around your home, pour a generous amount of coffee grounds. Leave it there overnight and observe how mosquito eggs float to the surface. These eggs will die because coffee grounds can restrict oxygen in the water, causing their death.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil comes with many benefits. Inhaling the scent regularly can help you relax, and it can also treat anxiety and many allergies. Aside from transforming your home into a relaxing sanctuary, lavender oil can also help with your efforts in getting rid of mosquitoes.

For you to use lavender oil for this purpose, simply pour it into a sprayer and spritz it on different areas of your home. You can do this as often as possible as this will not leave any irritating scent. To avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, lather some lavender oil on your skin, too!

Basil

Another plant you can have inside your home that can effectively kill mosquitoes is basil. Basil leaves are known to kill mosquito larvae, preventing pests from multiplying and infesting your home. You can place pots of basil all around your home, or you may spray some basil oil indoors.

Mint

Fresh mint is a very versatile plant that can be used in many meals, desserts, and even drinks. You can add mint to your Greek yogurt, protein smoothies, and salads. But, if you’re looking for newer ways to make use of fresh mint, opt to use them in getting rid of mosquitoes in your home.

You can use fresh mint to kill or drive away mosquitoes by spritzing mint oil around your home. Depending on your preferences, you can also pot fresh mints and place them in different areas of your home. This will easily shoo away mosquitoes indoors because the strong aroma of mint is too unbearable for them.

Beer And Alcoholic Drinks

If you have some spare bottles of beer and other alcoholic drinks at home, don’t put them to waste. Instead, use these to get rid of mosquitoes around your home. Simply place a glass of beer or other types of alcohol drinks in areas where you think mosquitoes usually fly and breed. Unlike most humans, mosquitoes can’t stand the smell of alcohol.

Ask Help From Pros
