Guest Bathroom Progress Update

I rarely ever show bathrooms on the blog because for the longest time we didn’t have a single finished bathroom in our house. Well, we still don’t have a finish bathroom, but we have progress today & I’m thrilled. I also chose a day where there was no light in this area of our house to take some quick crummy photos of this space, but I figured you got the idea of where we were going…. We put off updating the bathrooms for years and left them as they were. They were all usable but they were subfloor, not laid out the best way, and not very pretty. The bathrooms were all small and I knew we needed to start somewhere. We decided to update our guest bathroom first because it is the only bathroom in our house for guests to use. This bathroom is located in the back entryway mudroom where most of our guests enter our home & it’s pretty centrally located at the back of the house. For now we have kind of just placed things in here temporarily for guests like that mirror, the light, & the decor… but we soon it will be a finished space. Here is what we have done so far…

I wanted to start with the guest bathroom because I want everyone to always feel welcome at our home & not having a nice cozy bathroom isn’t very welcoming! This bathroom used to be super small, there really wasn’t much space between the sink and the toilet. We expanded the guest bathroom by 4 feet recently, replaced the floors [they were the old brick seen here], & included some extra storage space! The bathroom is now able to hold a cabinet, built-in storage, and we finally added some space between the sink & the toilet so you don’t bump it while doing your business. We added the same wall treatment and painted floors that we did in the mudroom which ties in nicely since they are connected. This was all recently done by our contractor while we have been in an out of town. When life is busy we decide to ask for help & I’m so thankful we did. We still have a long way to go in this room, but progress is looking pretty good!

The one really cool detail we added when we expanded the bathroom was this built in wall cabinet. It’s not quite finished, but it’s a great storage solution in this space & the builder did a great job. When it’s finished I will do a full tour and post on it showing how we accomplished this look. Another great storage solution we were able to add when we expanded the bathroom was this antique cabinet on the opposite side of the bathroom. It holds towels, toilet paper, & other bathroom items… I’m not sure this is the “final” cabinet for this space, but just knowing we can have a cabinet in here is pretty cool. Again… I’ll keep you posted!

I still have a few more things to update in here … we need to finish the built-in cabinets, get hardware for the bathroom, we are taking the green cabinet out & will put something else there, and finish styling the space once everything is complete.

Here is the look at this bathroom when we moved in:

& this is after some temporary progress before, look at how close the toilet was to the wall and cabinet…
