DIY Rustic Plant Bench

I don’t know about you, but I’ve really been getting back into DIY projects this year! We took some time off from DIY projects when Cope was born but when this year rolled around we knew we wanted to get back to it. DIY projects are a great way to recycle & reuse things you already own or save money by creating it yourself … Our DIY Plant Bench is super affordable to make and can be made using recycled materials!

I’ve been seeing a lot of plant benches on Pinterest and Instagram & absolutely love the idea of them! You can definitely purchase a bench like this from a store but I told Jose what I had in mind & we knew right away that this was something we could make ourselves. We had extra barn wood that we saved for random projects we decide to do & I love finding ways that we can reuse it. I knew that the plant bench would be the perfect use for the barn wood!

Let’s get into the DIY:

This is as simple as they come. We found some spare barn wood, but these boards are 2×8 cut down to roughly 6ft. To keep with the rustic charm we did a little jagged cut and scored the edges to mirror the raw edge we didn’t cut. New lumber you can skip this step.

The legs are four 2×2 cut to 25 1/2 inches with a 5 degree angle on the top and bottom to allow for the legs to kick outward.

There is an upper bracket that is a 2×2 cut to 4″ (long side) wedged and screwed in about 4″ down from the top.

The bottom bracket, which also holds the lower shelf, is 9″ long (long side), placed about 5″ from the bottom, and that is it.

Our DIY Plant Bench has a very primitive style which I think adapts really well to many different décor styles. If you wanted to you could even paint or stain your wood to get a different look and feel to your plant bench. I wanted to use the bench to display our plants but I think it would make a great farmhouse style sofa table as well! With a few adjustments to the height of the bench, you could use it as a coffee table or an entryway bench. You could easily add a few storage baskets to the bottom shelf making it perfect for a sofa table or entryway!

If you plan to make this bench I’d love to see how you use it! Tag me on Instagram or Facebook to show me how you style your bench. Check out even more of my DIY projects over on the blog here! Thank you for stopping by the blog today & every day, it means the world to me!
